Gitsu Institute of Electronic Engineering and Nanotechnologies (IEEN) was founded by the Decision of the Government of the Republic of Moldova in 2005 via merging the following three Centers: the International Laboratory of Superconductivity and Solid Electronics (ILSSE), the Specialized Bureau for Construction and Technology in the field Solid State Electronics (SBCT), and the Moldova Center for Research, Design, and Fabrication of Medical Equipment "Tekhmed" of the Institute of Applied Physics of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova.
Gitsu IEEN has been accredited as an organization in the field of science and innovation, which conducts scientific research according to the following profile:
- materials physics and nanotechnology, electronic engineering.
The activities of Gitsu IEEN falls within the following strategic priority: “Economic Competitiveness and Innovative Technologies,” with the “Nanotechnologies” and “Innovative Materials, Technologies, and Products” directions.
The main objectives of the Institute's activities are as follows:
conduction of basic and applied research in the field of solid state electronics, in particular, at the nanodimensional scale; development of materials engineering, electronic structures and devices;
development ofnew physical methods and principles, nanotechnologies, and innovative products for the national economy;
design and development of devices and equipment of a high scientific-intensive value using the research results; implementation of these devices and equipment in industry, medicine, agriculture, and automation, information, energy, and ecological systems;
formation of highly skilled human potential in the field of electronic engineering and advanced technologies for solving the dominant socio-economic problems and creating jobs for highly skilled specialists;
development of multifunctional nanomaterials based on metal nanoparticles and metal oxides—nanozymes—that are mimetics of natural enzymes for the detection and degradation of persistent organic pollutants (POPs);
development of alternative energy converters based on low-dimensional layers using economically accessible and ecologically attractive technologies for microelectronics, medicine, and spintronics;
developmentand production of electronic and engineering devices and installations for the health system, agriculture and industry;
coordination of research and developments in the fieldat the republican level.
The institute, in conjunction with Institute of Applied Physics, State University of Moldova, and Technical University of Moldova, publishes the Moldavian Journal of the Physical Sciences scientific journal and the Fizica şi tehnologiile moderne (Physics and Modern Technologies) scientific-didactic journal.
The Institute collaborates and coordinates its scientific activities with republican institutions subordinate to the Ministry of Education, Culture, and Research.: Institute of Applied Physics, Institute of Power Engineering, Institute of Microbiology and Biotechnology, Technical University of Moldova, State University of Moldova, Testimiteanu University of Medicine, Russo State University of Balti, OOO CHISINAU-GAZ, Draganiuc Institute of Phthisiopneumology, Vorniceni Phthisiopneumology Hospital, JSC Termocom, JSC Apa-Canal, etc.
The Institute maintains international collaboration with institutions from Germany, Russia, Romania, Poland, United States, Ukraine, France, Turkey, and other countries.
